Interior insights – Q&A with interior design studio Clayton & Company

In our latest interior insights, Clayton & Company were kind enough to give us the lowdown on their current challenges, trends, tips & hacks

Q: What are your current challenges? What solutions work for you?

A: In terms of sourcing furniture from suppliers, it can be challenging to find good quality, new and stylish furniture at a reasonable price point, especially with costs/prices rising across the industry as a whole in the last couple of years.

Q: What current trends are you seeing in terms of materials, tones, style etc?

A: We’re always on the lookout for new furniture that our clients wouldn’t have seen before, as we love to create interiors that stand out from the competition. As always, storage is at the forefront of buyers’ minds (including housebuilders) so we always look for bedsides with drawers.

We are also seeing that narrow console tables are a big hit at the moment as they allow space to be utilised without feeling overwhelming.

Natural materials like wood, painted wood, veneer wood, rattan etc are getting increasingly popular along with biophilic design, which is all about bringing the outside in and being surrounded by nature. Colour-wise, greens are still very much in, along with calming pastel tones and neutrals. People want to feel relaxed in their homes after what has been a trying time for a couple of years for most!

Q: What are your top styling tips?

A: Curved finishings create a modern feel to any space and look fantastic.

Inject textures and natural finishes into your space to create a relaxing, homey feel.

Add plenty of greenery to make your space feel fresh and connected with nature.

Utilise small space by creating a multi-functional room

Inject colour and pattern within the window treatments, artwork and soft furnishings.

Q: How have your clients’ needs changed in recent months/years?

A: Our clients in the housebuilding sector have seen buyers’ priorities and needs change since the pandemic, and so have we. It’s more important than ever that new homes offer buyers the ability to live, work, entertain and relax all under one roof. This is where we use our expert skills and knowledge to design interiors that meet the practical needs of the buyer whilst looking exceptional throughout.

Q: What inspires the team at Clayton & Company?

Inspiration always from seeing the product in the flesh and the best way to do this is by visiting furniture shows – which is something we do very often! Furniture shows are like the catwalk runway of the interior design world, it’s so exciting to see the newest products, styles and ranges that our suppliers have to offer and we love incorporating them into our designs.

Q: What are you working on next? Any big changes for the team?

We’ve got lots of exciting projects underway and many more lined up for this year and next! From large hotel projects to beautiful show homes and funky apartments, we can’t wait to show you what’s to come.
